KARIMNAGAR: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti held its sway in the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency, getting a majority in six of the seven Assembly segments barring Jagtial, which is represented by Congress candidate and local MLA Jeevan Reddy.
The TRS registered a record margin of 58,580 votes in Karimnagar Assembly constituency represented by Minister M. Satyanarayana Rao. As news spread that TRS leader K. Chandrashekhar Rao was heading towards victory, party supporters and others thronged the SRR Degree College and raised slogans of `Jai Telangana', `Kadilindhira Telangana - khabardhar khabardhar'. Supporters burst crackers near the counting centre on the main road and painted the town pink, hurling `gulal' colours on each other.
The crowd in front of the counting centre became so frenzied that police had a tough time controlling them.
Vehicle surrounded
At one stage, TRS activists surrounded Mr. Jeevan Reddy's vehicle as he came out of the counting centre and raising anti-Congress slogans, hurled `gulal' on his vehicle. DCC president T. Santosh Kumar, with police intervention, ensured smooth passage for him. Later, a victorious Chandrashekhar Rao and others including A. Narendra, K. Jayashankar, T. Harish Rao and Etala Rajender and others took out a victory rally from SRR Degree College to the Tower Circle here.
