| Urges people to help TRS emerge into a major party |
K. Chandrashekhar Rao
WARANGAL: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K. Chandrashekhar Rao has urged people to help the TRS emerge strong by 2009 to secure separate statehood for the region.
Participating at a `Meet the press' programme here on Monday, Mr. Rao said people had to wait till 2009 to achieve Telangana.
"The separate statehood for the region will be possible only if the TRS wins 110 MLA seats of the 119 and 16 out of 17 Parliamentary seats in the 2009 general election," he said.
The TRS chief explained as to how Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar. Then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad did not agree to the demand but was compelled to pass a resolution when he fell short of a majority in the Assembly.
It was political compulsion, power and number game.
"There is no principle, honesty or sincerity for creating new States," he pointed out.
Mr. Rao was in the district to take part in the `Palle baata' programme at Bhupalpalli. It was N. Chandrababu Naidu who thundered that the TRS would not last long. Now, it was Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy who thought the movement would die a natural death.
"The Karimnagar by-election result has disproved their expectations. The movement will not die until the separate statehood for Telangana is achieved," he asserted.
The party also plans to focus on enrolment drive and constitution of party committees at mandal and district level during the ongoing Palle Baata programme.
